There’s a robot who paints pictures. He doesn’t make paintings, he paints pictures. Already existing pictures. There’s nothing new about that – people have been copying the masters since forever. What’s new is the fact that a robot has been programmed to make copies of paintings. That, and the work being produced, is pretty fantastic.

But the robot is not an artist, as acknowledged by its creator, Oliver Deussen: “The machine does only have a very limited idea about what it is doing, no intention.”
